Thomas Cahill, the historian and novelist, calls his historical novel series "the hinges of history", because it's his perspective that while the primary eras of history... the enlightenment... the dark ages... all have valuable history for us to study, Cahill believes that it's in the few years BETWEEN each epoch where all the interesting things happen.
I think Cahill is onto something, the idea that it's during the change periods that a lot of the important stuff happens.…
